Prof. Michał Ciałkowski - with DHC

Prof. Ciałkowski will be awarded by Kielce University of Technology. The title of Doctor Honoris Causa is awarded by universities to persons of particular merit in the field of science and culture. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Prof. Michał Ciałkowski graduated with honours from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (formerly Machine Construction) in the specialization of Machines and Power Equipment in 1972. In the same year, he graduated from mathematics studies at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.

The Board of the Polish Students' Association awarded prof. Ciałkowski with one-year scientific and technical internship at the Pump and Compressor Factory (Ochsner & Sohn) in Linz (Austria). In 1978, prof. Ciałkowski defended his doctoral dissertation with honours, and in 1988 he obtained a postdoctoral degree in the field of Machine Design and Maintenance.

In 1980, prof. Ciałkowski obtained the prestigious scholarship of Alexander von Humboldt at the Institute of Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery of the RWTH Aachen University (Institut für Strahlantriebe und Turboarbeitsmaschinen der RWTH Aachen), and in 1990 the I.R.E.X scholarship (Providence, Cornell, California University).

In 1996, he obtained a scholarship from the Ministry of Research and Technology of the German government (through the Humboldt Foundation) for long-term cooperation with the Institute of Energy Machines of the TU Dresden.

In 1994, prof. Ciałkowski was appointed associate professor, and in 1996 he was awarded the title of professor of technical sciences.

Prof. Michał Ciałkowski performed a number of functions at the university. He was, inter alia, deputy dean of the faculty, rector's plenipotentiary for university computerization, rector's plenipotentiary for aviation, member of the Council of Users of the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSNC), head of the Department of Thermal Technology. He created Aviation Engines specialization and initiated cooperation with military aviation. In 2018, he was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Military University of Technology.

Prof. Ciałkowski’s main research interest are flow machines, the use of numerical methods in thermal-flow problems, inverse problem. He was the promoter of doctoral dissertations in the field of application of numerical methods in thermal and flow problems. Prof. Ciałkowski was a reviewer of many doctoral and postdoctoral dissertations.
