SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS

The most important scientific achievement is the description of the fundamental processes and phenomena at the electrode/electrolyte interface which has a crucial importance for the development of modern electrochemical systems for storage and energy/conversion. More specific achievements:

  • it has been proven that mesopores aggravate the performance of Li-ion cells by the continuous formation of solid electrolyte interphase,
  • carbon-lithium binding was estimated by in situ 7Li NMR studies for series of carbon materials,
  • successful application of composites with carbon nanotubes and transition metal oxides, electrically conducting polymers, and layered double hydroxides was demonstrated for electrodes of supercapacitors operating in aqueous electrolytes,
  • significant role of redox processes has been proven for carbons enriched in nitrogen and oxygen, carbon/dichalcogenide composites, as well as for electrolytes with redox activity (iodides, bromides) in electrochemical capacitors,
  • mechanism of hydrogen electrosorption in microporous carbons was elucidated and the energy of C-H binding was estimated (ca. 100 kJ/mol),
  • specific iodide sorption has been described using operando Raman spectroscopy and quartz crystal microbalance studies,
  • novel green electrolytes based on deep eutectic solvents have been introduced for supercapacitor application.
